Parish News Week of March 9, 2008

PARISH MISSION “NOT GUILTY”: Our parish mission, given by Father Mike Scully, will begin this Sun., March 9, at 7 p.m., with the topic “Has Sin Disappeared?” On Monday evening, at 7 p.m., his topic will be “Bringing Sin Back (To Know What You Are Getting Rid Of)”; and on Tuesday evening, at 7 p.m., he will conclude with “Now Go to Confession.”

COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICE: Please join us on Wed., March 12, at 7 p.m. for our Lenten penance service. Also, Father Mike Scully will hear confessions during the day on Wednesday for those not able to come in the evening.

SHRIMP/FISH DINNER: On Fri., March 14, we will serve our last dinner for this Lenten season. It will be a shrimp/fish dinner and the cost is: adults, $12.50; children 3 to 12, $6; and under 3 eat free. If you want only the fish dinner, the cost is: adults, $7; children 3 to 12, $3; and under 3 eat free.

ALTAR SOCIETY MEETING: Our meeting will be on Wed., March 12, at 6 p.m., due to the penance service that will be held at 7 p.m. We will discuss first Communion and our soup/salad supper. All women of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend.

EGG STUFFING PARTY: We will need volunteers of all ages (especially grandmothers) at our egg stuffing party on Wed., March 12, at 10 a.m. in the 4th-grade classroom to get ready for our 3rd annual Easter egg hunt.

EASTER CHOIR PRACTICE: We will have our Sunday evening practices at 6 p.m. for the Easter music. Anyone interested in singing or playing a musical instrument, please come.

EASTER FLOWERS: If you wish to make a donation for the flowers for Easter, please place your donation in a plain envelope marked “Flowers” and include your name. Thanks.

CLEANING & LAWN MAINTENANCE BIDS: If any parishioner is interested in submitting a bid for cleaning the parish center or lawn maintenance, please submit a bid to Bill Loechler by April 6. Job descriptions can be found on the white table in the hallway. If you have any questions, please contact Bill at 369-3137.

STEUBENVILLE YOUTH CONFERENCE & CANOE TRIP: This year’s theme is: WITNESS. Registration forms are due in the Sacred Heart Youth Office with a $100 deposit, no later than Mon., March 31. Registrants will be reserved in the order they are received in the office. Thirty dollars of the deposit is nonrefundable; $70 is refundable with cancellation by April 30. This exciting trip to the Springfield Steubenville Youth Conference is followed by a one-day caving or canoeing adventure at Discovery Ministries in Eminence, Mo. Buses depart on Fri., July 11, and return on Mon., July 14. The cost is approximately $380. This price includes conference fees, transportation, lodging, and food (everything except spending money). Registration forms can be found on the Youth bulletin board.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: We are searching for adult and teen leaders to be part of our Rainforest Adventure team. This team will prepare and/or lead our vacation Bible school to be held July 21-25. Volunteers and students may pre-register at: http://toolkit.thevbs place.org/sacredhearttongievbs2008. Our next planning meeting will be on Sun., March 30, at 11:30 a.m. in the 4th-grade classroom.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The Knights of Columbus will hold their regular meeting this Sun., March 9, at 6 p.m., in the 4th-grade classroom due to the start of our parish mission at 7 p.m.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIPS: The Knights of Columbus are again offering scholarships to graduating seniors. Applications are on the youth bulletin board. The deadline to submit applications is Sun., April 13 (no exceptions). Contact Paul Haverkamp at (913) 796-2003 or Neil Hayes at 845-2013 if you have questions. Return applications either to Paul or Neil.

4TH-DEGREE SCHOLARSHIPS: The 4th-degree Knights of Columbus are offering a scholarship to any high school senior. The forms are located on the main bulletin board under the baptismal pictures. Please return the form by Fri., April 25, to the address at the bottom of the application.
